New In Christ

I advise playing this while you read ;)

This song has been stuck in my head recently. I like it a lot because it is humbling. Sometimes it is hard for me to get into 'worship' songs that are all about us instead of about the One who created all things because I feel like I'm not worshiping the way I was made to. This song, in my opinion, does a really good job of giving glory to Him. The focus is somewhat on us, but it is more on how solely God and His grace makes us beautiful. We cannot sanctify ourselves.

You makes beautiful things. The way the song is written reminds us first that God made the universe and continues to give beauty to His creation. He is a great and powerful God who deserves all glory.
You makes beautiful things out of the dust. We are then humbled that we are from dust. But, God is such a great artist and even though we are created from mere dust, He chose to make us beautifully in His image.
You make beautiful things out of us. Not only did He make us beautiful, but after we messed up that beauty with sin, He decided to love us by redeeming and sanctifying us. We are able to now glorify our Creator.

Sanctification is the process in which we are made more like Christ, who is perfect holiness. Being made holy means we are set apart and placed into His family for His purposes. I just think it is such a beautiful gift. He could have left us in our sin and in death because that is what we truly deserve. But He decided to make us new and continues to make us new.

The Spirit is given to us in order that we can begin fighting the battle against our evil nature. This should give us hope in Him. We are no longer doomed to be defeated by our flesh because He has power over sin. Let us fight the good fight and allow Him to work in us to perfect us for His sake. Let us also remember that even when we feel like we are backtracking, He has the power to push us forward.

2 Corinthians 5:14-21

For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
