Simply Water

Water is so cool. I've recently been really obsessed with it. God was very intentional when He designed it. It is multi-purposed and beautiful. This is going to be a nerdy post.

First of all, water is transparent. How does that even work?! How can water be so useful, but at the same time look like it is made of nothing? It literally saves us from death and our body is mostly made of it, but at the same time, you can go to a (nice) beach and literally look right through it like it isn't even there. We are dependent on something virtually unseen. It kind of reminds me of our relationship with God. His Spirit revives us. It keeps our spirit alive. Without it, we could not be born again and would die. At the same time, He is unseen. Both our body and spirit need seemingly nonexistent entities in order to stay alive.

Second, water is powerful. Not only can storms and floods be dangerous and magnificent, but if you could take water away from people, you would have leverage like nothing else because existence of water is essential for any life.

Water is the magical substance that holds everything together. Think about it. Without water, our bodies would cease to exist, earth wouldn't have oceans, fish would be a myth, everything would die.

Here are some other interesting facts you may not know about water:

  • It has different states of usefulness depending on its temperature
  • Water symbolizes purity
  • Water power can be a source of energy
  • It's 55-78% of our body weight and the majority of the earth
  • Bodies of water freeze from the top down (if it wasn't this way, all life in the sea would freeze and die)
  • It has no smell or taste and no calories
  • The water cycle is a unique and beautiful mystery
  • It dissolves more substances than any other liquid
  • Water is made of hydrogen and oxygen. Both individually make fire, but together they extinguish fire
  • Water ecosystems are not fully explored
  • Frozen water makes snowflakes, each one perfectly unique and beautiful
  • H2O is the most abundant molecule on earth
  • Too much water can kill you, but not enough can do the same
  • Some uses of it include: for agriculture, to hydrate, as a scientific standard, for washing, transporting, as a weight, for heat, cooking, extinguishing fire, recreation
  • God uses water for art in clouds, oceans, waves, lakes, waterfalls, rivers...
  • While the earth was still formless, water was present (Genesis 1:2)

So, the next time you have a glass of water, think about the beauty and intentionality and creativeness our God has in His creation. Think about how different aspects of water show different characteristics of our God.
