For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
God's word is powerful. It's living and active. What comes to mind when I read this is the common criticism which says that Scripture is no longer relatable to our lives today. But God's word stands forever (Isaiah 40:8) and it is easier that heaven and earth disappear than for the Law to fail or become void (Luke 16:17). So when people excuse God's holy word as inapplicable or 'no longer appropriate' for today's culture, something in our spirit should be vehemently disagreeing.

It is a beautiful book and it's not only the sword which cuts into our soul with Truth and Light revealing things we may be trying to hide even from ourselves (our evil hearts and intentions within), but the word is also the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). It cuts into us and then we turn around to use those learned Truths and revelations to fight the evil which attacks us.
Know the word because it is God's self revelation. Know the word because it has the power to point out sin which may be keeping you from freedom. Know the word because it has the power to fight evil and Satan who only comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
